NVS PROVIDES A WIDE ARRAY OF DENTAL OPTIONS:
WHY DO PETS NEED DENTAL CARE?
Studies have shown that 80% of pets over the age of 3 have dental disease that requires some form of treatment. Dental disease is not only associated with pain and discomfort but can also lead to serious health complications involving the liver, kidneys, and heart. This is why we recommend annual dental examinations. Annual cleanings and brushing teeth daily will help your pet live a pain free, healthy life.
WHAT ARE SIGNS OF DENTAL DISEASE?
The most notable sign of dental disease is bad breath. This can be an early indication of infection and periodontal disease. Other signs include redness of the gums, drooling, difficulty eating, and tooth discoloration.
WHAT IS INVOLVED WITH THE DENTAL PROCEDURE?
Dental cleanings for dogs and cats require anesthesia along with intubation to protect the airway and allow for a thorough and complete cleaning. An oral exam is performed by the veterinarian following the cleaning to check for signs of root exposure, gum disease, and infection.
EXTRACTIONS
We offer loose tooth extractions during all dental procedures and perform surgical extractions based on our oral health assessment. The need for surgical extractions may be determined prior to the dental procedure, however, a basic dental cleaning is often required first to determine the full extent of dental disease. At that time, a dental estimate is provided to allow us to appropriately plan and schedule future surgical dental procedures.
